Quartetto Goldberg was founded in 2021 at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona under the guidance of the renowned Quartetto di Cremona, and immediately established itself as one of the most dynamic and promising ensembles of today’s chamber music scene.
Since the very beginning of its artistic journey, the ensemble has received enthusiastic acclaim from both critics and audiences, winning major awards such as First Prize at the Filippo Nicosia Chamber Music Award 2023, the Abbiati “Piero Farulli” Prize as best young ensemble, and the special award “Una Vita nella Musica – Giovani” presented by Teatro La Fenice in Venice. At the same time, the quartet has been appointed Artist in Residenceat the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels, studying with Corinna Belcea and Miguel da Silva, and at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, under the guidance of Günter Pichler.
Quartetto Goldberg has appeared in some of the most prestigious Italian concert series, including MITO SettembreMusica, the Società del Quartetto di Milano, Trame Sonore in Mantua, the Società dei Concerti di Milano, the Associazione Scarlatti in Naples, the Amici della Musica di Palermo, the Società del Quartetto di Vicenza, the Società dei Concerti di Trieste, the Filarmonica di Trento, the Barco Teatro in Padua, the Associazione Musicale Appassionata in Macerata, and the Società Aquilana dei Concerti “Barattelli”. The ensemble has also collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Alessandro Carbonare, Kyril Zlotnikov of the Jerusalem Quartet, Antoine Lederlin of the Belcea Quartet, the Quartetto di Cremona, Miguel da Silva (formerly of the Quatuor Ysaÿe), and pianist Costanza Principe.
Their international career includes appearances at important festivals such as the Lofoten Festival in Norway, Vibre! Festivalin Bordeaux, Crans-Montana Classics in Switzerland, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and Jeunesses Musicales Deutschlandin Germany, the Zeist Music Days in the Netherlands, Musique à Flaine and La Nuit du Quatuor in France, Verão Clássico in Lisbon, and the Allegra Festival in Sofia. Thanks to collaborations with Italian Cultural Institutes, embassies, and consulates, the ensemble has also performed in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Finland, in addition to completing two tours in Japan and China.
Quartetto Goldberg is a frequent guest of Rai Radio 3, regularly featured in programs such as La Stanza della Musica, Piazza Verdi, and I Concerti del Quirinale. It is part of the MERITA platform and the Le Dimore del Quartetto network, with which it has carried out projects across Europe, receiving in 2022 the title of Ensemble of the Year.
The name of the group pays tribute to J.S. Bach’s famous Goldberg Variations, a symbol of an artistic vision rooted in musical research, expressive clarity, and intense, direct communication.
